Day 26 - Getting tucked in.
Jake lately has decided that big boys don't need their mom's to tuck them in. We've been doing the count down before bed. (Starting at 5 minutes and counting down each minute... most of the time I forget and this 5 minute countdown can take up to an hour. He's going to have no concept of time whatsoever!) And the last couple of nights he's told me, "It's okay Mom, I'll go to bed by myself." We watched him as he gathered his favourite Blanky, his teddy bear and Jasper as he headed to bed. The first night he even changed into his Pajamas on his own. He gets himself all tucked in and about 5 minutes later when it's been just enough time to claim his independence he calls out, "Mom, I need some water." I bring him up some water and he asks me to place it on his dresser. And about 3 minutes later inevitably we can hear him yelling at Jasper to not drink it. And this goes on for a few minutes before he's asking me to come up again to get Jasper out of his drink.
I adore this side of him. He's so independent and rules the roost. But at the same time can't quite let go of Mom's tuck in time so he makes excuses for me to come up. It's scary how quickly my baby has turned into a very smart manipulator. If he's getting this concept at 3, I'm in BIG trouble in 10 years from now.
