Day 15 – Video games VS shoes

Josh and I were having a disagreement yesterday and I am pretty sure I won. As this doesn't happen often I feel the need to gloat.

Since the whole Bell fiasco we were trying to determine if we can afford to pay more for our internet than we have in the past, and to go with a company called RipNet which has a much better reputation than Bell. The conversation essentially went like this:

Me: With Bell we weren’t paying for rental fees but we were paying $45.00 (but that was after the discount for the first year) So it is more expensive but it might be our only choice. $65.00 a month just seems a bit much especially now that were aren’t bundling with Bell. What do you think? Worth it?

Josh: LETS DO IT. WE’LL CUT BACK ON OTHER EXPENSES TO EVEN IT OUT. NO MORE SHOES.

Josh McPherson (He was included in these e-mails i think for Josh to have moral support): At the very least, let them do the site survey, then fight it out amongst yourselves….There’s also the option of Xplornet however, whatever service you get, there will be an extra charge for what’s called a static IP address (I want to say between 4.99+9.99 per month) and that’s what you will absolutely need to have to use Xbox Live!

Josh: THEN THAT IS WHAT WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE! NO MORE SHOES.

Me: I’ll conceed on the shoes.... IF you can promise NO NEW GAMES. You have more games than I have shoes, and my shoes cost a 3rd of the price.

Josh: AH BUT YOU HAD 3 TIMES AS MANY SHOES. I WILL GET RID OF SEVERAL GAMES BEFORE NEW GAMES ARE PURCHASED.

(In super fine print at the bottom) Subject to change at any time. No responsibility on part of Josh Pershick. All sales final. Josh is king. Thank you come again.

Josh McPherson: This is a valid point. His games have some form of resale value unlike your smelly shoes

Josh McPherson: Ahhh…Aucontraire….The overall value in a game far exceeds that of shoes….

Case in point:

- He has logged well over 60+hrs playing Fallout 3 and that’s before he even started to play it for a 2nd time. Can you say that you’ve worn your snazzy new shoes for that long in such a short period of time?

- L4D is a game that keeps on giving. Just 1 multiplayer game can log over 2hrs of gameplay. Can your shoes provide excitement at a ratio of 2:1?

- Oblivion…Well it’s a stupid shitty fucking game but he’s played that game for more hours than anyone I know

My point is that for a meager $50-60, he can log in many many hours of enjoyment compared to your shoes that cost about the same and are no doubt no more comfortable to wear for 8+hrs than sitting in a comfy chair.

…………..I rest my case

Me: First of all.

I have less shoes than you have games.

2nd of all... Mr. know it alls. The specific pair of shoes that I have on in the very moment cost me a mere $25.00 3 years ago. On average I wear these shoes 3 days a week for about 12 hours a day. 7am – 7pm. I have worn them approx. 2808 hours. These shoes are near falling apart, they have no heel pads left, and I am basically walking around on nails. They also almost have holes in the toes. I paint them with black marker to keep them going. Granted these are my most warn pair of shoes. I have boots which I don’t wear often but that I have had for 8 years or more. I buy on average 2 pairs of shoes a year, unless I have been asked to buy some as a bridesmaid in a wedding.

So let’s do the math. I have approx. 30 pair of shoes. I pay about $20.00/pair. Some are $7.00 others are 35 so an average of $20. Most of my shoes I’ve owned for a long time. Let’s say for averages sake 5 years. I wear shoes about 12 hours every week day. And maybe 4 hours on the weekend.

Cost of shoes $20.00 X 30 pairs = $600.00/5year
Hours worn in a 5 year period: 64 hours X 26 weeks x 5 years = 8320 hours/5 years.
For a measly $ 0.07/ hours worn my feet enjoy the luxury of stylish shoes.

Now let’s do the game breakdown.

$60.00 x 30 games = $1800/2 years
Hours played for the average game... 75 hours ( I know that your faves you have 200 plus hours but for just as many games in your collection you’ve got 30 or 40. )
30 games X 75 hours = 2250 hours.
The cost to play your games = $0.80 for every hour played.

Bottom line: Your games cost us 11 times more than my shoes. And that doesn’t include the cost of highspeed internet or your xbox live account.

AND NEED I REMIND YOU THAT I PAID FOR THAT TV YOU PLAY THEM ON!!!!

Lol.

OH YES I RULE!

Okay....your math is WAY off....

But really....you're not taking into account that Josh does not pay 60.00 for every game..most are previously played or "Greatest hit's" games which are between $20-$30...

And I'm sorry..but EVERYONE Who knows you knows that you've never bought just TWO pairs of shoes in a year......

Hey, Josh has both shoes and games. His cost is higher.

Also, it's illegal to go to a restaurant or store without shoes, but you can go everywhere without games.

Having lived with Josh for several years, and knowing the shoes he wears...I know for a fact that he could go into Walmart with 30 bucks, buy a video game AND a pair of shoes....and have enough left over for a pint at the oak.....
