To Jake on his 3rd birthday

Dear Jake,

on Wednesday you turned 3 years old. I can't believe how time flies by. this past year we've watched you grow from a sweet toddling two year old to an extremely smart, cuddly three year old.

When Aunt Ashley asked you what you would like for your birthday this year, you told her that you just wanted everyone to come to your birthday party. This is so like you to come up with the most perfect thing to say. You have an ability to make everyone around you, love you. You are a very social kid. You get so excited when people are coming over. And when we tell you that grandma is coming to pick you up, you have this half cry, half laugh, almost as if you are so overcome with excitement that it's all you can do to control your emotions.

A few times this year, you had us worried with a trip to the hospital for a bad infection, and your odd limp, but the specialists calmed us with their diagnosis that you were normal.

You amazed us this year with only bringing home 1 bad virus - Strep Throat - compared to last year's six month long snotfest.

As I look back and remember the year, it reminds me of how many new things you can do, like talking. You can talk and talk. According to Grandma Pershick, you get that from your Dad, but I have to tell you that if you've got ANY Nicholls in you, you'll be an over-talker most of your life.

Every day you grow up, you look more and more like your Dad. If i take you anywhere where they know your Dad, they know exactly who you are — "Mini Josh" all the way. And who can mistake those Pershick eyelashes or the Pershick cowlick! You did however get your ability to sleep from me. You've always been a big sleeper and in fact you still have a three or four hour nap during the day when most three year olds don't nap at all.

Despite how much of a grump you are in the morning (also comes from me), I think that that is my favourite time with you. I get to wake you up, and turn that very sad face into a smile. And we have our best conversations in the morning on our way to Lynn's. As much as I love this lovable stage, I'm excited to see what you will grow up to be this coming year.

I love you,
Mom (and Dad) xoxox

And when I get to go and pick Jake up I get so excited...I nearly half cry and laugh...he is such a joy to have in our life. I don't know a grandchild anywhere that could be loved more than our Jake. Love Grandma Nicholls!

Jen, between you and your mom you've both got me crying! It'll be so fun for Jake to go back and read this blog as he gets older.

How can one person be so lucky to have SO many bright lights in their life? I feel blessed to say that Jake is truely one of the brightest. He always does something to "make my day".
