What to do about Lent - Day 1

A friend of mine (Whatsherface) asked me last week what I was giving up for Lent. And I didn't have an answer for her. I never participate in Lent as I'm not Catholic, nor am I overly religious. I believe in a higher being though. I just haven't decided what that is yet.

I started thinking about Lent and what it all really means. I'm not sure I understand depriving myself of something I love for 40 days to show myself self-sacrifice and will power or to remind me that Jesus sacrificed himself for the good of mankind. I do however believe that I could use Lent as an excuse to better my life for 40 days.

So now it's just a little matter of deciding what to do. There are many different areas in my life both personally and professionally that I'd like to improve on. I'd like to lose the last 20 lbs that hasn't come off yet, I'd like to eat healthier, I'd like to spend more time with my friends and family, I'd like to learn new software programs, and improve my photography techniques. I'd also like to see this blog evolve and start adding more posts. And that's when it hit me. - The blog is something that allows me to grow in so many aspects of my life. It's a place where I can showcase my family, connect with people I don't get to see everyday. I think it even shows an evolution of my photography and art work. It provides me with a creative outlet while improving my writing skills and even getting to know myself a little bit better.

And so my 40 days begin with my decision to transform this blog a little. Every day of lent (Sundays don't count) I will provide you with a post. It may be only a photograph or a funny story but I promise that every day it will be updated.
