The climb to the top of Split Rock

One of the things that I have always wanted to do since I was little, was climb split rock. This rock formation has been the main attraction from my Aunts living room window for as long as I can remember. We had this video of my Dad and Uncles (quite drunk) climbing out to the rock and getting caught in the tide. My sister and I used to watch it all the time. Fascinated that the tide can come in that quickly, oh and also, that Dad may have had a few too many. (This didn't happen very often).

Now bear with me as I had over 700 pictures to choose from for the entire NB trip.
It was hard to weed pictures out.

The long walk down the beach to get to it.

What you can't see in this shot is that the crevice that Josh is jumping over goes pretty much straight down to the bottom. It was not a wide jump but pretty scary (for me) none the less.

Freedom! Doesn't this remind you of that MC Hammer video? All Josh needs is a robe.

This is the ledge on which Josh was standing. It was maybe 2 feet wide.
Nothing I would have attempted.
It was so gorgeous up there, if the tide hadn't been coming in I would have liked to saty up there for another hour or 2.

Even Blue made the climb with us.

All of us took some time to enjoy the view and a few beer too.

The next set of rocks over. looks like we weren't on the only split rock.

Uncle Buck (Hazen)
Wild violets grew on top of Split Rock. There were hundreds of them, and to think I paid something like $7 a piece to have them in my wedding bouquet.

What is Josh writing? Why is he defacing this beautiful rock?

Awe! I heart you too Josh.

See I was there.

Sammy peeking out from behind a rock.
Josh hanging on to a slimy icky wall of seaweed.

Josh and Uncle Buck collecting dinner.

These were the actual mussels we ate. Hand picked by us, and cooked by Uncle Hazen.

The biggest snail I've ever seen.

There was a crazy amount of starfish in a certain area of the beach. It was completely odd for me to see something that I associate with tropical islands on this frigid ocean.

The Cottage in New Brunswick

Here is a picture of the cottage that we managed to stay in for FREE! It was very nice, cute and perfect for us. The location was awesome and the view was to die for. It was only a minute walk to split rock. Sigh, I miss the coast so much.

The fireplace that kept us all warm and cozy.

The window with the great view.

This is my cousin Sammy and her dog Blue, sharing a moment.

Latest Painting

I am interrupting the New Brunswick photos for a post of my latest painting. I decided I wanted to try water colours. Although I've dabbled in them when I was younger, this is my first serious painting in this medium. I think it turned out really nice. And the best was Jake recognized himself in the painting without me having to tell him.
